Why it's important

Rehoboth Welsh Church in Delta, Pennsylvania has a rich, unbroken history as a Welsh Church beginning with its founding by Welsh settlers in 1854.  It occupies a unique building of brick and slate that was constructed in 1891 and is on the National Register of Historic Places.  It has remarkable internal acoustics and a Moeller pipe organ that make it a perfect venue for spirited Hymn singing, as in its Cymanfaoedd Canu (Singing Festivals).  It has welcomed many visitors from Wales who travel across the ocean to see it.  Entire choirs from Wales have come to perform there.  Generations of Welsh-Americans have asked it to house and preserve a great many Welsh books and artifacts of cultural interest and historical value. It founded Cor Cymraeg Rehoboth, a performance choir that demonstrates the Welsh choral tradition to the public.

Why we are here

Welsh immigrants were attracted to the Delta area over a century ago to work with the its excellent deposits of slate and green marble.  Times change and those industries no longer thrive.  Rehoboth now receives an important part of its support from the Welsh diaspora, those who recognize that it still embodies a crucial part of our common heritage.

Gymanfa Ganu

On the first Sunday in May and the second Sunday in October the church has triditionally held a Gymanfa Ganu (Singing Festival). These highly popular events draw hundreds of visitors from throughout the Eastern United States and Canada.  We look forward to resuming them again soon!
